Hithium, Reliance Industries’ New Partner, has Close Connections to the Pakistani Military

The controversial partnership in India’s energy sector is a national security concern. The collaboration between Xiamen Hithium Energy Storage and Reliance Industries, which has been ongoing since at least 2024, was recently exposed through shipping records.

Reliance’s military connections make this collaboration even more concerning. Is Reliance aware that Hithium has close ties with Pakistan’s Imperial Electric Company, Ltd. (IEC Pakistan), a company that works closely with the Pakistani military?

IEC Pakistan has a long-standing relationship with the Pakistani Air Force (PAF) and the Pakistani Navy (PN), which they proudly showcase on their official website. The Pakistani company has likely utilized Hithium products in its military-support projects for the PAF and the PN’s Ahsan naval base, amongst others. This Ahsan base, for instance, supported hostile Pakistani naval operations against India during Operation Sindoor last May.

This close cooperation between Hithium and the Pakistanis makes them strategic partners, with goals beyond just profits and energy storage innovation. IEC Pakistan is using Hithium’s products for the benefit of the Pakistani military as they are preparing for their next attack. China and Pakistan both oppose India, and China has backed Pakistan in each round of conflict, proving their strong alliance. Just last April, during Operation Sindoor, Pakistan used a Chinese air fighter and Chinese missiles to shoot down one of our warplanes used in our retaliation for Pakistan’s terrorist attack.

Reliance Industries, through its collaboration with Hithium, has officially joined a circle of companies, connections, and interests that are being leveraged to serve China’s goal of strengthening ties with Pakistan. Operation Sindoor was a wake-up call for us to halt all activities related to Chinese companies, especially those deeply engaged with Pakistan, like Hithium.

For Reliance Industries and Chairman Mukesh Ambani, this cooperation will be a lasting stain when the next terror attack occurs. Does Reliance Industries want to be remembered for partnering with the enemy? This strategy of greediness over India’s national interest is no longer in the shadows. India cannot trust China to protect its interests when it has better interests to nurture with our enemy, particularly in sensitive business sectors such as the energy sector, which is critical for our economy, security, and well-being.
